Out of sight, out of mind. Many of us tend to to forget how to take good care of our joints and bones – that’s, up to the point when something tweaks, pops, twists, jams or breaks. Often the pain and discomfort does not result from injuries, but from sitting or holding a standing position for too long with no proper body support or posture. When it is painful even to sit or hold a standing position, is seeking for chiropractic recommended?

Chiropractic doctors specialize in the musculoskeletal system. That is, our bones, muscle tissues, ligaments and tendons and how these components work alongside one another to keep our body mobile. Chiropractic doctors have earned a pre-medical undergraduate degree and an additional degree after 4 to 5 years at chiropractic school.

Chiropractic adjustment seeks to better bone positioning, alleviate soreness in the spine and joints, and also improve the overall mobility without having to go through any surgical procedures or the use of pharmaceutical drugs. A traditional medical treatment option, however, could accompany chiropractic care. Chiropractic has proven beneficial in the management of osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia.

The chiropractor applies a sudden, manipulated pressure to the joint, moving it past the usual range of flexibility without hyper extending the joint. The individual may need one manual manipulation or use a series of manipulations. Treatment method could also include restorative massage or hot compresses.

Ideally, chiropractic not only alleviates discomfort and strengthens function, it helps to prevent future injuries as well. As a result, the individual will probably need to make 4 to 6 sessions since most problems are usually ongoing. And like any form of treatment solution, it needs sufficient time for the condition to recuperate.

Similar to numerous medical treatments, chiropractic care can be implemented along with a nutritional and workout routine to continue to keep a healthy bone and joint system. Of course, all treatment option depends on a medical history of the patient. Although chiropractic can help correct back, shoulder and neck pain and headaches, if the person has osteoporosis or inflammation related arthritis then chiropractic is probably not the ideal treatment solution.
