I grew up in the Bay Area in a sports and games family. We played soccer in the fall, basketball and skiing in winter; spring and summers were all spent at the local swim club, on the tennis court and in the pool. I raced on the swim team from the time I was 5 years old, through high school and by the time I was in high school, I played water polo year round. I had found my sport and I loved it!
As an avid Cal fan, I had set my sights on UC Berkeley and was thrilled when the head coach of the women's water polo team called and asked me to come play water polo for the Cal Bears. My enthusiasm was brought to a standstill when I was suddenly struck by muscle pain that made daily workouts painful and frustrating. I was devastated. I sought the opinions from several (roughly 19) outstanding medical doctors. I had every test in the book done --blood tests, x-rays, CT's, MRI's, and even "exploratory" abdominal surgery. Through all of the poking and prodding, the medical doctors offered the same solution- medication for pain, rather than finding and treating the cause.
I was told that "at least I would not be in pain." True, I remember thinking. I will not be in pain, but I am not really a thriving or even a functioning student or athlete either! How could I study at Cal in the daze of prescription pain killers and muscle relaxers?
That started my hunt for another solution. I saw many different health care practitioners until I saw a different kind of doctor --a Chiropractor. I was skeptical when he identified a cause of pain that no other medical professional had even considered...*
Misalignment of my spine. I was ecstatic when he was right! The treatments were painless and successful! I felt better than I had in years and I was finally as healthy on the inside, as I looked on the outside!*
My life was truly saved by chiropractic care and I was so thrilled with this approach to health and wellness that I asked to work for my chiropractor during college. I saw the daily miracles that occur when the body is allowed to heal itself when the spine is aligned properly... I knew I was going to be a Chiropractor!*
After my graduation from UC Berkeley, I moved to Southern California to attend Southern California University of Health Sciences, where I completed my Doctorate of Chiropractic, graduating cum laude. After practicing in Southern California for a few years, I am happy to be back in the Bay Area where I live with my husband and serve the wonderful community where I grew up!*
